Minor Atom A Eagles repeat as York Simcoe Champions
Congrats to our Minor Atom A team on winning a second York Simcoe Championship, defending the title they won last season in Novice A.
It was an an exciting season for this team, that started with a strong showing as a finalist in the Mary Parkinson Memorial Early Bird Tournament. In December, they were Silver Stick Region Champions at the qualifier tournament in Sudbury and finished the season as Semi-Finalists in the Silver Stick International Finals and at the Dunsmuir Memorial Tournaments.
In a tough Minor Atom A Division, our Eagles finished in a tie for third in regular season play where they defeated the first place Orillia Terriers in the opening round but lost in the second round of the OMHA Playdowns to a tough team from Innisfil.
Returning to the York Simcoe Playoffs, our Eagles got stronger in each round and faced the Barrie Colts in the Championship series where they won the title in a three game sweep in an exciting final game on the big ice at the Barrie Molson Centre.
Thanks to coaches and families that provided support throughout the season to our Minor Atom Eagles, it was another exciting season for this young team, as they finished with a record of 42-15-3.
Good luck this weekend as they represent the YSMHL in the Lakeshore Challenge. They will be taking on the Quinte West Hawks in a two game series. These will be their final games with their Head Coach, of the last three seasons, Jeff Mackey behind the bench.
Congrats Minor Atom Eagles and good luck to new coach Chuck West, we can’t wait to see what you do next season!
