Minor Atom A win the Jim Wilson Chevrolet Winter Classic
Winter Classic tournament in Orillia the second weekend of November.
Our Eagles started the tournament motivated with a goal. The structure of the tournament was a double round robin with the Orillia Terriers and the West Niagara Flying Aces. Our Eagles went undefeated in the round robin scoring 32 goals with our goalies only allowing 4 goals against.
Meeting the West Niagara Flying Aces in the final, our Eagles had to bring their best hockey game. Although our Eagles had defeated them twice in the round robin 6-2 and 2-0, the West Niagara Flying Aces were hunting down a win. They came out in the first two minutes and scored two quick goals to go up 2-0. Our Eagles had to dig deep and refocus. The Eagles set a goal to win each period every game. In the second period, our Eagles tied the game up at 2, then West Niagara went ahead 3-2. Within the last minute of the second period, our Eagles tied it up at 3 heading into the third period with a short handed goal. The Eagles came together in the third and their offensive pressure paid off with a goal at 7:40 left in the third. With a nail biting finish, they hung onto win the Jim Wilson Chevrolet Winter Classic with a final score of 4-3.
We can always count on our Minor Atom A Eagles to give us an entertaining, nail biting game. Our coaching staff is proud of the strides and engagement in learning you are consistently demonstrating on the ice this season.
Congratulations on your tournament win Eagles!
