U10A Eagles are York Simcoe Champs!
It's been an strong end to the season for our U10A Eagles. Read more below on their Dunsmuir tournament win, York Simcoe Championship and the upcoming OMHA Championship!

Dunsmuir Memorial Tournament
At the end of February the U10A Eagles came into the Dunsmuir Memorial tournament hot having won 5 regular season games in a row, and sitting 5th place in their 14 team division.  As the tournament got underway, their hot streak continued as they took down the Leaside Flames 10-0.

Their second game, they ran into a very talented, fast Cornwall team in Seaway Valley Rapids.  With strong team defence and timely goaltending, the boys were victorious 4-2.  The next match and final of the round robin was against a gritty Halton Hills Thunder.  The Eagles battled through with a 5-2 win setting the stage for a championship rematch against the speedy Seaway Valley Rapids club.

Seaway Valley came out flying and held the pressure early on.  Once again, strong team defence allowed the Eagles to ride the wave and capitalize on their opportunities.  The Eagles had a 4-1 edge heading into the final minute of the 3rd period but the pesky Seaway team didn't quit and managed to find the back of the net twice.  The final seconds ran out and the U10A Eagles prevailed to win their championship.

York Simcoe Playoffs

The Eagles next moved in the round robin stage of the York Simcoe Playoffs where they finished strong enough to qualify for the semi finals vs the Innisfil Winter Hawks. Innisfil finished tied for 2nd in the regular season standings but the Eagles held a head to head regular season/tournament record of 2-1-2, as well as defeating them in last year's league semi finals. To say there was some history between these two teams would be an understatement.

The game started off back and forth with both goalies making big saves and keeping their teams in it.  Innisfil got into penalty trouble and the Eagles swept down to take over the momentum, scoring three unanswered goals to pull ahead convincingly.  Innisfil tried their best to claw back, but the Eagles pressure and team play wore them down and the time ran out for the Winter Hawks.  Eagles won 3-0.  On to the Finals!!!

The Eagles now had to travel to Barrie and the stage was set for an exciting league  championship finals.  The Eagles finished the regular season with one tie and one convincing loss to the Barrie Colts who tied with Innisfil in the regular season standings.  The intensity grew as both teams came out flying and exchanged scoring opportunities with both goalies up for the challenge.  Barrie was first to strike as one of their forwards snuck in behind the Eagles D and slipped one past the netminder.  The Eagles immediately lined up and shrugged off the goal against and got back to work,  scoring back to back goals to take a 2-1 lead heading into the second period.  As the time ticked down, the Eagles continued their constant pressure and found the scoreboard three more times including an empty netter.  Eagles won 5-1 and were crowned York Simcoe Minor Hockey League Champions!
