Novice and Midget A Eagles win YSMHL Championships
Submitted By EGMHA Webmaster (JM) on Monday, April 02, 2018
Congrats to our youngest and oldest representative teams on winning their respective divisions in the York Simcoe Minor Hockey league.

It's been an exciting season for both teams, and they didn't disappoint with equally exciting Championship series.

Novice A

The Novice A team started their season off strong winning the Mary Parkinson Memorial Early Bird Tournament and finished as Semi-Finalists in the Silver Stick and Preston International Tournaments.

In a tough Novice A Division, our Eagles finished sixth in regular season play (only 2 points out of third) where they lost in the second round of the OMHA Playdowns to a tough team from Innifil.  Returning to York Simcoe play, our Eagles got stronger in each round and faced the Georgina Blaze in the Championship series where they won the title in four very close games with a 2-1 win at home in EG.

Thanks to coaches and families that provided support throughout the season to our Novice Eagles, it was an exciting season for this young team to start their hockey careers.

Midget A

Our Midget A Eagles took down the Ajax Knights in six games to win the York Simcoe Championship .

The series went the distance after our Eagles were up 2-0-1 after 3 games only to lose the next 2 games forcing a game 6 in the opponent's rink.

The boys dug deep and played their best game of the series possibly of the year beating the knights 3-1.

The Midget A Eagles team is made up of half 2000 boys and half 2001 & 2002 boys finished tied for first overall in the regular season, and although they lost a tough battle for the OMHA's they came back even stronger in the York Simcoe's and showed what they were really made of battling through adversity and coming out on top.

This is the last year in EG for the 2000 boys on the team most of which have played here since Tyke, we wish them all the success in their future endeavours.

Thanks to head Coach Frank Kuznik for all his hard work, late nights and true dedication to this team which ultimately lead to this championship.

Minor Midget MD

Congratulations also go out to the Minor Midget MD Eagles who won the YSMHL Consolation Finals.

The Minor Midget MD team capped off their very successful season (with two tournament wins) with the Championship win.  Our Eagles took the series against TNT in four games.
