Early Bird Success for Eagle Rep Teams
Submitted By EGMHA Webmaster (JM) on Friday, October 4, 2019
Was an exciting September for several of our Eagles Representative teams as they started their seasons with exciting Early Bird Tournaments.

Congrats to our Atom and Bantam Eagles on their winning their first Championships of the season in their respective Early Bird Tournaments.

Bantam Eagles

The first weekend in September our Bantam Eagles went undefeated run and claimed tournament championship in the Ajax Early bird tournament!!

Our Eagles had to battle through their first game, and they were definitely shaking off the rust. They went down early and the powerplay goals against were stacking up...but they found their legs late in the third, and tied the game 4-4 with 2 seconds on the clock and the extra attacker. That energy rolled right into the next game where they handled Peterborough easily with a 9-2 victory. Saturday they had an opportunity to finish first in the 7 team division, and earn a quarterfinal bye; but so did Belleville. Our Eagles had a sloppy first and second period, and came into the third down 4-2. Like the Eagles they are though they battled back to tie it, only to surrender one immediately after, late in the third. They tied it 5-5 with about a minute & a half left, and somehow pulled out a miracle with 15 seconds remaining on a point shot that deflected at least twice before going in. This earned them the first place finish and the bye in the semi finals, only to meet...Belleville again.

This time, our Eagles had the finals in their sight - they were determined to win. They easily handed Belleville a 3-0 loss. They rode that confidence right into the final game against a physical Bradford team, and had a "that's our trophy" mentality. They started strong, and the first period was almost over when they surrendered the first goal. They regrouped in intermission and tied it early into the second...but surrendered the next one shortly after. Our Eagles though weren't fazed in the least. They scored the second to tie it, and then decided they weren't letting it slip away. They scored again shortly after, and then locked it down, sealing the game with an empty net goal for a 4-2 victory. What a fantastic tournament by all, and a great start to a great year!! Well done Eagles!!

Atom Eagles

Following in their footsteps the following weekend, our Atom Eagles also went undefeated in Round Robin play at the Mary Parkinson Memorial Early Bird Tournament in Richmond Hill.  Going into this tournament, our Eagles had the pressure on them as they won the tournament in Novice and lost in a tough final last year in the Minor Atom division.  They didn't want a repeat of last year and were determined to become Mary Parkinson Champions again. They opened the tournament with a strong 7-0 win against  North Toronto and followed that up with a 7-2 win over the host Richmond Hill Stars.

Their third game was a physical one against the London Jr Mustangs, they opened up an early lead but the Mustangs battles back to end the game in a 2-2 tie. The last game of the Round Robin was another tough one against the Caledon Hawks, they opened an early 3-0 lead but Caledon wasn't going down easy and worked their way back into the game but our Eagles buckled down and pulled out a 3-2 win to finish first in their division.

In the Semi Finals our Eagles didn't slow down with a 4-2 over the always tough Innisfil Winterhawks.  In the Championship game our Eagles were firing on all cylinders and worked their way to a 4-1 win over the very formidable Oakville Rangers. A fantastic way to start their season, congrats Atom Eagles!!
